Trump Takes Credit For 'Most Secure Election Ever' But Says It Was 'Rigged'

Donald Trump attempted to have it both ways Friday as far as election security is concerned. The president was happy to take credit for holding an election that the Department of Homeland Security called the “most secure in American history” while still insisting it was “rigged.” Yes. He seriously said that. Here’s the tweet. “For years the Dems have been preaching how unsafe and rigged our elections have been. Now they are saying what a wonderful job the Trump Administration did in making 2020 the most secure election ever. Actually this is true, except for what the Democrats did. Rigged Election!” For years the Dems have been preaching how unsafe and rigged our elections have been. Now they are saying what a wonderful job the Trump Administration did in making 2020 the most secure election ever. Actually this is true, except for what the Democrats did. Rigged Election!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 13, 2020 Not surprisingly, Twitter put a note marking the president’s claim as “disputed.” Other Twitter users also chimed in. President seems to be taking credit for making it the \most secure election ever\while also calling it \rigged.\https://t.co/RYU4sSU9wL— Pam Fessler (@pamelafessler) November 13, 2020 Democrats say elections are rigged but I did a great job making sure they aren’t rigged. That said, the election that just happened was rigged. https://t.co/HqmpvjJQeJ— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) November 13, 2020 So you’re saying you made the elections the most secure ever but that there was also widespread fraud which you’ve shown no evidence of?— William LeGate 🇺🇸 (@williamlegate) November 13, 2020 Most secure.Except rigged. Got it.— ian bremmer (@ianbremmer) November 13, 2020 So you are saying it is the most secure election ever? But also rigged? But still the most secure ever? So more secure than all the other elections where the verdict stays the same? Got it.— Matt Haig (@matthaig1) November 13, 2020 Some people found the inherent contradiction in the president’s tweet hard to handle. this tweet just gave me whiplash https://t.co/6YgpLg1xwS— John Kruzel (@johnkruzel) November 13, 2020 But one person sympathized with the president and offered a message of hope. It’s hard to keep all the lies straight isn’t it? Don’t worry. In 68 days you’ll be out of your Twitter misery.— Dr. Rob Davidson #WearAMask (@DrRobDavidson) November 13, 2020
